Child safety products used throughout the home are simple to use and reduce the chances of babies, toddlers, and children being injured in the home.

The average home is filled with numerous dangers for toddlers and babies unless the home has been appropriately childproofed. The goods news is that baby proofing products for home use abound. It's easy to childproof a home when the right child safety products are purchased. Below are some of the most important products for making a home safe for babies and toddlers.

Electrical and Appliance Safety for Babies and Young Children

Electricity and appliances in the home pose numerous risks to curious babies and toddlers. The following baby safety products prevent electrical and appliance related injuries:

  • Electrical outlet covers prevent babies from putting fingers and other small objects such as bobby pins into electrical outlets.
  • Cord shortener products are excellent for hiding ugly cords, but they also reduce the likelihood of electrical cords being grabbed by little hands. Electrical cords have the potential to cause numerous types of injuries. For example, a child may grab a hold of a cord and cause small appliances such as irons to topple over and fall onto the baby. Cords also have the potential to end up wrapped around a baby's neck, resulting in strangulation, thus it is a good idea to use a cord shortener on all appliances.
  • Refrigerator locks keep young children from getting into refrigerators and freezers. This is important because these appliances are large enough for children to crawl into and if they do, they may end up trapped and suffocate.

Child Safety Gates

Childproof gates can keep babies from tumbling down stairs and can also keep them out of rooms that are not appropriately baby proofed. They can also keep babies and toddlers away from pets and out of the way of projects parents may not want the baby to get into.

Standard child safety gates work well for most things, but in some cases the following types of childproof gates may be helpful:

  • Extra wide baby gates are great for rooms with large entry ways such as kitchens. They can be used like a temporary wall to keep toddlers from gaining undesired access to various rooms in the home.
  • Tall baby gates don't just keep a baby out of a room; they also help keep a pet such as a dog from jumping over the gate. Tall baby gates are a good option for those who want to keep their pets away from the baby.

Window and Door Security and Safety for Babies and Preschoolers

  • A window guard is an important child safety product. Window guards are made out of mesh, plastic, or wood and keep toddlers and young children from climbing out of or falling through opened windows.
  • Sliding window locks make it impossible for young children to open windows.
  • Door knob locks prevent young children from opening doors and getting into rooms that are off limits and also keep little ones from wandering outside without supervision.
  • Door finger guards keep doors from slamming shut on little fingers.

Baby safety products include electrical outlet covers, cord shorteners, appliance locks and numerous types of child safety gates. Windows and doors can be secured through the use of window guards, sliding window locks, and door knob locks, and little fingers can avoid being painfully pinched when door finger guards are used.

Baby safety products are one of the most important investments that can be made for the health and safety of children.
